All English language submissions should be sent via Submittable, which may be accessed by clicking the button below. Alternatively, specific genres may be accessed via the links following each set of guidelines. We charge a small fee, all of which goes toward maintaining the site. Please wait at least four months before asking us about the status of your work. We are a team of four with day jobs. This project is a labor of love.

We accept submissions by email or snail mail only under special circumstances. If you are in a position that does not allow you to pay the submission fee or are unable to submit via Submittable, please send an email to puntvolatlit@gmail.com.

WE ARE AN EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE JOURNAL. If you prefer to have your work in hard copy, we wish you the best of luck submitting it elsewhere.

GUIDELINES

All document titles should be written like this: Last Name_First Name_Title of Work. If submitting multiple works, instead of writing all titles, please write something like this: Last Name_First Name_Five Photos or Last Name_First Name_Three Poems.

Please include a third-person biography of 150 words or fewer (we prefer fewer). Artists need not send an artist statement unless it seems relevant. Please do not list all previous publications in the bio, only the most recent or most significant. Please include any links to personal websites, major publications (not journals), social media, or whatever else seems helpful. Do not hesitate to contact us with questions.

FICTION

All submissions should be formatted using a standard twelve-point font and double-spaced. Page numbers help. One longer piece of about 8000 words or fewer or up to three shorter pieces of about 3000 words or fewer are best. Submit only once per reading period. We accept .doc(x) and .pdf. POETRY

All submissions should be formatted using a standard twelve- or eleven-point font. Up to six poems may be sent in a single document. Submit only once per reading period. We accept .doc(x) and .pdf. Please be aware that poems with an unusual format may require us to upload it as an image in a larger-sized font, but we will contact you if this is the case. Submit poetry here.

VISUAL ARTS

All video submissions should be thirty minutes or fewer. One longer-form video or up to two shorter-form videos per reading (viewing) period may be sent. Submit only once per reading period. We prefer YouTube and Vimeo links but also accept .mp4, .mov, avi., and .mpg. Submit video here. Please be aware that some .mp4 files do not play in Quicktime (which makes it difficult to view the submission), so you may be asked to resubmit using a different format.

All image submissions should be digital works or representations of works. Up to six files per reading (viewing) period may be sent. Submit only once per reading period. We accept .jpg or .png. Submit visual media here.

MUSIC

All submissions should be thirty minutes or fewer. Up to two songs or audio recordings per reading (listening) period may be sent. Submit only once per reading period. We accept .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, and .wav. Submit music here.

OTHERWISE

All submissions should include multiple media formats. Up to six files per reading (otherwise) period may be sent. Submit only once per reading period. We accept any combination of .doc(x), .pdf, YouTube or Vimeo links, .mp4, .mov, avi., .mpg, .jpg, .png, .mp3, .m4a, .ogg, and .wav. Submit otherwise here. SPENCER A. PARKER MEMORIAL AWARD IN FICTION

CLOSED FOR SUBMISSIONS. The Spencer A. Parker Memorial Award is named for the late young writer featured in our first issue. The contest includes a $75 award and featured publication in the journal with a brief interview. We accept single submissions of about 8,000 words or fewer in English, Castellano, Català, or Deutsch. Submit only one piece per entry but enter as many times as you like. The judge for the finalists is TBD. Any entries that make our shortlist will be considered for future publication in the journal. We accept .doc(x) or .pdf. Submit to contest here.

PUNT VOLAT AWARD IN POETRY

CLOSED FOR SUBMISSIONS. The Punt Volat Award in Poetry includes a $75 award (US dollars, to be converted if necessary) and featured publication in the journal with a brief interview. We accept submissions of up to six poems in English, Castellano, Català, or Deutsch. Depending on the quality of submissions, we will select either one poem or a set of poems by one author. Submit only one set of up to six poems per entry but enter as many times as you like. We are thrilled to announce that the judge for the finalists is Meghan Privitello. Any entries that make our shortlist will be considered for future publication in the journal or in a special issue. We also reserve the right not to select a winner should submissions not meet our standards. We accept .doc(x) or .pdf. Submit via Submittable between 10 January 2021 and 10 March 2021. Standard submissions are also currently open.
